Would you like to become a youth mental health first aider?
1 in 10 young people experience a mental health issue at any one time. Key figures in a young persons life - parents, family members, teachers, tutors, carers, youth workers can often spot when a young person is struggling but may not know how best to help.
Youth mental health first aid (MHFA) is an accredited, internationally recognised course that promotes early intervention, improves awareness of mental ill health and increases confidence in helping young people that may be experiencing mental health difficulties.
Why train as a youth mental health first aider with Thrive Mental Health?
This Youth Mental Health Training course is delivered online by an accredited MHFA England instructor and Principal Clinical Psychologist with over two decades of working in mental health.
This two-day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider, giving you:
- An in-depth understanding of youth mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of youth mental health issues
- Confidence to step in, reassure and support a young perosn in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills, such as non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help a young persons recovery by guiding them to further support.
Each session includes a mixture of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities and is limited to 16 people per course to ensure safety and support of each delegate.

Session 3: Suicide and psychosis
Session 4: Self-harm, recovery and action planning
Dr. Jessica Woolley
Principal Clinical Psychologist
Jessica is a Principal Clinical Psychologist, with 20 years experience working across NHS Mental Health, education, sport and corporate sectors. Jessica undertook her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Cardiff University, has worked in a number of NHS Trusts and is trained in a broad range of therapeutic models such as CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR and systemic practice and providing clinical supervision.
Jessica currently delivers a range of training programmes on mental health, resilience and peer support alongside projects involving working with services across the UK and Internationally to carry out service reviews and enhance their efficiency, effectiveness and safety. She has a particular interest in whole system approaches to mental wellbeing and innovative practise.
Jessica is a member of the British Psychological Society and the Health Care Professions Council.

Mental Health Online Training
Training Online with Thrive Mental Health
This will be an online course delivered through the MHFA England Online Learning Hub. Learning takes place through four live interactive training sessions with self-learning activities in between.
All resources for training will be sent securely to an address of your choosing. Workbooks will be provided for activities and the manuals contain all the covered course content (and much more!). These will be yours to keep at the end of the course.
